If the money is not enough: social welfare burial

If the relatives cannot bear the costs, the Sozialamt (social welfare office) covers the costs of a simple, dignified burial under § 74 SGB XII. The application goes to the social services office of the district in which the deceased lived. The estate and the three months of continued pension (Sterbevierteljahr) are taken into account first.
